Telangana Launches Affordable LPG Scheme for Women

by Feb 24, 2024India0 comments

In a major move towards women empowerment, the Telangana government is set to introduce an LPG scheme that will benefit 40 lakh women across the state. Under the Mahalaxmi scheme, eligible women can purchase cooking gas cylinders for ₹500. This initiative, announced by the Congress ahead of elections, targets households with active LPG connections and government-issued ration cards. The scheme, expected to be launched by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on February 27, aims at subsidizing the cost difference through a DBT-based system. Beneficiaries’ eligibility and subsidy amount will depend on their gas consumption over the past three years, ensuring a pollution-free cooking environment. This step is a significant effort towards reducing women’s dependence and enhancing their quality of life.
