Joss Butler has been named England’s new captain in white-ball cricket after Eoin Morgan retired from international cricket. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement on Thursday that Jos Butler would lead England in ODIs and T20s from now on.

Butler, who made his white-ball cricket debut in 2011, has led England several times. He has been Morgan’s vice-captain since 2015. In Morgan’s absence, the wicketkeeper-batsman has also led England in 14 matches. Butler was supposed to be the captain after Morgan’s departure.

Butler has been in great form of late with the bat. In this year’s IPL, he has scored four centuries and a flurry of runs. He is also the second English batsman to score a century in all formats of men’s cricket. The second is his current teammate David Malan.

Butler is set to make his captaincy debut against India in the ODI and T20 series at home.
