Renowned Jain monk Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj peacefully attained Samadhi at Chandragiri Teerth, Chhattisgarh, aged 77, by undertaking ‘sallekhna’, a Jain religious practice. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned his demise, expressing it as an “irreparable loss”.
Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj had been residing at the teerth in Dongargarh for six months and observing ‘sallekhna’ for the past three days. The procession to honor him and the final rites will be held at Chandragiri Teerth.
PM Modi commemorated Maharaj’s contributions to society, emphasizing his dedication to poverty alleviation, healthcare, education, and spiritual awakening. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai lauded him as a “bundle of spiritual consciousness”.
