The Punjab King team relied on the pyrotechnics of Jonny Bairstow (66 on 29 balls) and Liam Livingstone (70 on 42 balls) to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 54 runs on Friday and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Bairstow, who was invited to christen, scored four boundaries and seven sixes on his stroke to start the Punjab King’s innings on a bang.

The Punjab Kings bowlers recovered and held RCB to 155 for 9 to stay alive in the competition.

Kagiso Rabada (3/21) had three wickets while Rahul Chahar (2/37) and Rishi Dhawan (2/36) each accounted for two RCB batsmen.

For the RCB, death over specialist Harshal Patel (4/34) and spinner Wanindu Hasaranga (2/15) were the best shooters.
