Indian NGOs focused on feeding people – Malnutrition causes a delay in the growth of children and affects their cognitive development. Chronic hunger makes people more susceptible to common illnesses and infections that can even lead to death due to rapid weight loss.

India tops the list of the most malnourished countries with almost 194.6 million hungry citizens out of a total of 795 million hungry people worldwide. To bring about a change in the development of these citizens, there are Indian NGOs that focus on feeding people.

This is the world’s largest non-profit half-day dining project. Starting in Karnataka in 2000, Akshaya Patra started a school lunch program even before the Government of India forced all primary schools to provide half-day meals. This foundation, in association with the central and state governments and with funds from private donors, now serves more than 1.6 million students in public schools and with government help in 11 states in India. The foundation’s mission is to ensure that children are not left without education due to hunger.

As of 2014, Feeding India is a non-profit organization designing interventions to reduce hunger among underserved communities in India. This organization operates in 32 cities with more than 2,000 volunteers. It focuses on collecting food scraps from parties, weddings, and other similar events for distribution to foster homes. The organization has a helpline where donors notify them of the food they want to contribute. Volunteers, also called Hunger Heros, go to donors, check the food, and then transport it to the destination. Similarly, the organization has also partnered with catering companies to have a regular supply of food.
