“Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign: On August 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi changed the profile pictures on his social media accounts to Tricolor and urged all Indians to do the same and also hoist the national flag at their homes.
The Center also launched the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign to encourage people to hoist the Tricolor at home and commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav from August 13 to 15 to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence. “…the idea behind the initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of people and promote awareness about the Indian national flag,” the campaign’s website says on the move.
Recently, in a video message to textile traders in Surat taking out a five-kilometer Tiranga yatra, Modi said, “The Indian tricolor not only contains three colors, but our tricolor is a reflection of our pride in our past, our commitment to the present and our dreams for the future. Our tricolor is a symbol of India’s unity, integrity, and diversity.”
The Union government said the idea behind the campaign was to build a personal relationship with the flag and represent national unity, summon a sense of patriotism, and promote awareness about the Tricolor. Hoisting the flag has been more formal and institutional than personal and the campaign hopes to change that.
